The Englishness of English Dress –

Frills and Flounces

4 – 30 May 2000

In collaboration with the archive at London College of Fashion, the exhibition hosted a collection of garments from the late 1940′s to the 1980′s belonging to one London woman.

The Korner collection comprises suits and formal dresses by Hardy Amies, Norman Hartnell and Victor Stiebel, as well as off-the-peg fashions from London boutiques and department Stores. Outifts by Kensington dressmakers next to home-made items show the diversity of a single woman’s wardrobe.

The exhibition at Judith Clark Costume looked at details (in this case frills) from the collection and their unlikely resonance within current fashion design. Pieces from Spring/Summer 2000 catwalk collections were displayed alongside those from the Korner archive.
